Bilbao (December 2012)
Bilbao, in northern central Spain, is the largest city in the Basque Country, a region which encompasses three Spanish provinces, and a portion of southern France. Situated on the Nervion River, Bilbao is a center for trade and commerce, and is home to one of the Guggenheim Museums, which was our primary destination.
Designed by architect Frank Gehry, the museum opened in 1997 as part of a re-development plan which sparked other important projects including an airport, a subway system, and a footbridge over the river. Photography is not allowed inside the museum, but it is spectacular...really fun!
