Feria

The month of May in Spain means only one thing...Feria season! Each city throughout southern Spain has its own Feria, which runs for about a week in each city. Think State-fair-minus-livestock-4H-and-craftsmen, and add in Flamenco & Sevillana dancing, tons of tapas, and more sherry wine than you ever knew existed and you'll be getting the idea... There are special dresses just for Feria season, called what else but Feria dresses! They have ruffles times twelve and weigh about 20 lbs. Don't forget high heels, a dirt lot where it all takes place, and of course, carnival rides! During Feria, businesses close, schools close, and everyone (Spanish) takes the Monday after Feria off...it's commonly known as "hangover Monday" or whatever the Spanish term for that is. The Spanish LOVE their fiestas and Feria is the party to end all parties. Feria typically runs until about 2AM. This girl never made it past 10, and that was plenty of Feria for me, but then again, I'm not Spanish...and there's always next year! :)
